Texas residents who live in the areas surrounding SpaceX’s Starbase launch site or McGregor manufacturing and testing facility may be entitled to compensation for structural damage resulting from extreme amounts of acoustic energy including noise, vibrations, and sonic booms from SpaceX’s rocket testing, launching, and landing operations at those sites.

Paul LLP is prosecuting claims against SpaceX for significant structural damage to the homes of residents living near these testing and launch facilities and businesses.

What is SpaceX?

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) is a global leader in commercial space flight. At its Starbase facility in Cameron County, Texas, SpaceX tests and flies the largest and most powerful rockets in human history: the Starship space vehicle and Super Heavy booster (collectively Starship).

The areas surrounding Starbase have been subjected to repeated blasts of extreme acoustic energy from Starship’s groundbreaking operations. Starship’s massive 33 Raptor engines produce 16.7 million pounds of thrust, over double the amount of thrust generated by the Apollo-era Saturn V rocket that propelled humanity to the moon for the first time and nearly double the amount of thrust generated by NASA’s modern Space Launch System. The magnitude of force generated by these massive rockets was illustrated in Starship’s Test Flight 1 on April 20, 2023, when the explosive, acoustic energy generated by Starship’s Raptor engines during launch shattered the reinforced concrete launch pad, creating a massive debris cloud of concrete and shrapnel that flew over 385 acres and up to six and half miles away. Plaintiffs allege that Starship’s unprecedented acoustic energy is causing structural damage to their homes.

At its McGregor facility, SpaceX operates as a static fire engine proving ground where engineers stress test Starship’s Raptor engines. Plaintiffs allege that these tests produce violent, high-energy acoustic waves and extreme seismic tremors that physically shake their homes and cause structural damage. For those who live in the surrounding communities, these acoustic assaults are daily and inescapable.

The Damage Done

Plaintiffs allege that, as a result of the intrusive and violent acoustic blasts generated by Starship engine testing and flight operations, their homes have suffered significant structural damages including foundation cracks and shifts; cracks running up walls and along floors; cracked windows; damaged roofs; unsquared doors, windows, and cabinetry that will not properly open and close; and vehicle damage due to falling debris. These homeowners now face significant structural repair costs.
